This is a big question. Why on earth
0:02
would living in a 370 ft home be the key
0:06
to sustainable happiness? Well, after 10
0:09
years of intentional living, I've
0:11
learned a few things. First of all, our
0:13
stuff doesn't make us happy. If it did,
0:16
then the happiness industry would not be
0:18
a multi-billion dollar per year
0:19
industry. So, if we're honest with
0:21
ourselves, we have to admit that it's
0:23
not the answer. The second thing I
0:25
learned is that experiences bring us
0:27
joy. That's why we share our travel
0:30
stories and we remember our adventures
0:32
far more vividly than we remember the
0:34
stuff that we bought. In fact, studies
0:37
show that we adapt to new things
0:38
quickly. But there's one caveat. We only
0:42
really cherish those experiences if we
0:44
have time to digest them. If we travel
0:47
non-stop from one place to the next, we
0:49
don't have time to absorb the experience
0:51
and it fades away pretty quickly. So, I
0:54
believe that sustainable happiness comes
0:56
from living with less so that we can
0:59
experience more. Which means that the
1:01
key to sustainable happiness is actually
1:04
pretty simple. It's just to live tiny.
1:07
Now, you might think that I'm talking
1:09
about downsizing your home, and I am.
1:12
But I'm also talking about simplifying
1:14
your life, living with less stuff so
1:16
that you can do more with your time and
1:18
be more present in each moment. The
1:21
bigger our homes are, the more stuff we
1:23
have to clean, the less time we have to
1:25
spend on the things that really matter.
1:27
And when we're cleaning, we're not
1:29
present. We're just going through the
1:31
motions. The same is true of all the
1:34
other tasks that take up our time. When
1:36
we're paying off debt or we're stuck in
1:38
traffic or we're trying to keep up with
1:40
the Joneses, we're just going through
1:42
the motions. We're not present. We're
1:45
not living. We're just trying to get
1:47
ahead. And when we're not present, we're
1:50
not happy. So many of us were raised to
1:52
believe that more is better. More stuff,
1:55
more money, more house, more cars. But
1:58
what if more is actually less? What if
2:01
having less stuff, less financial
2:04
obligations, and less distractions
2:06
allows us to be more present in our
2:08
lives and to experience more joy? I
2:10
believe that it does. I believe that
2:13
sustainable happiness is a direct result
2:15
of living tiny. I challenge you to
2:18
consider downsizing your home,
2:20
simplifying your life, and living tiny
2:23
so that you can experience more joy,
2:25
more freedom, and more peace. In other
2:28
words, so that you can be more present
2:31
in your life. Because isn't that what
2:33
life is all about? Thank you so much for
2:36
watching. I'll see you next time.
